Paul Newson Appointed the New President of International Association of Gaming Regulators

During the annual meeting of the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR) held in Jamaica, the members chose Paul Newson as their new president. He will now replace outgoing president Trude Felde, the senior advisor of the Norwegian Gaming Authority. Newson is the New South Wales (NSW) Responsible Gaming Fund trustee in Australia.

IAGR gets experienced leadership

Newson has had a long and illustrious career. He was the chief executive officer of Greyhound Racing in New South Wales. While working there, he helped upgrade their welfare controls, honed the group’s strategy and aided in creating new commercial and regulatory activities. It was helpful in improving the accountability and governance of the group. Later, in April 2017, he joined Liquor & Gaming NSW as deputy secretary where he worked till July 2019. Previously, he was the deputy secretary of Liquor, Gaming & Emergency Management NSW.

Commenting on his new role as IAGR President, Newson said,

“It’s an honor to be appointed President of the International Association of Gaming Regulators following what’s been a watershed year for the organization. I’m really looking forward to working with our Board of Trustees, members and industry stakeholders to best position IAGR to advance better regulation globally.”

IAGR witnesses massive gathering

During the annual meeting of IAGR between September 30 and October 3, about 200 gaming regulators from around the world gathered in Jamaica. The meeting was also attended by representatives from gaming industries in 25 countries, advisors and law representatives. The meeting also witnessed 40 speakers, including Curby Partners’ director Paul Curby. He detailed his thoughts on regulating gaming regulators.

Newson said that the speakers at the meeting made thought-provoking presentations on the stage and helped drive valuable conversations about the industry. He added that such conversations are crucial for helping develop collaborative regulations for the industry on a global level. He also thanked the Casino Gaming Commission and Betting Gaming & Lotteries Commission of Jamaica for hosting the event.

The meeting is scheduled for Boston, Massachusetts next year with Massachusetts Gaming Commission acting as the host.
