William Hill Launches Mobile Sports Wagering in Iowa

After the in-person registration requirement was scrapped in Iowa on the first day of 2021, William Hill US has quickly launched its new mobile sports betting offering in the state.

Iowa’s gain

William Hill’s new offering is its enhanced sportsbook website and app. The Hawkeye State is one of the pioneers of online and retail sports betting in the Midwest. It launched its athletic wagering market in August 2019. However, the law required in-person registration at a licensed gambling property before players were allowed to play online.

The new app will be available for registration and use anywhere in Iowa. The app and website aim to provide a

“seamless betting experience that makes it easy and quick to find your favorite markets, and to make and track one’s bets.”

William Hill’s strong presence in the state

The US arm of the British gambling giant is already a behemoth in Iowa. It runs sportsbooks for six casinos in the state, includes Harrah’s Council Bluffs, Horseshoe Council Bluffs, Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf, Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo, Lakeside Hotel & Casino, and Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino.

The app is built on the firm’s proprietary platform and allows punters to bet on a broad range of markets and get access to multiple bet types. It allows live in-play betting as well. It follows a simple registration process and accepts deposits and withdrawals to a wide range of options including online banking, debit cards, PayPal, etc.

The Iowa sports wagering market has 8 players which include DraftKings, FanDuel, Hard Rock, PointsBet, BetRivers, Elite Sportsbook, and Q Sportsbook. Several other online sportsbooks are also planning to enter the state with the in-person requirements gone.

William Hill’s sports betting offering is available in seven states, including Washington DC, Nevada, New Jersey, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and West Virginia. It also powers the Rhode Island Lottery which runs sports betting in the region.
