Grupo Multimedios increases RSI’s influence in Mexico

Rush Street Interactive has signed an agreement with Grupo Multimedios, a Mexican media giant, to create an online casino and sports betting business in the second quarter of this year.

Grupo Multimedios – RSI Pact

Under the terms of the 25-year agreement, RSI will run igaming and sports betting throughout the country in close collaboration with a group subsidiary that possesses a license to conduct internet gaming in Mexico.

In addition, the collaboration enables the operator to access Grupo Multimedios’ diverse media assets and distribution channels for promotional and content integration reasons.

Operations are slated to begin in Q2. The company’s media assets span television, radio, print, billboards, and digital, and include Mediotiempo, a digital sports property with over seven million unique monthly visitors; Milenio, a digital news and information source in Spain; and Canal 6, a network of 22 television stations and 63 radio stations.

RSI hails this latest relationship as adding depth to the company’s developing Latin American foothold, which was established in 2018 with the launch of RushBet.co, the region’s first regulated online sportsbook. At the same time, Grupo Multimedios has an 89-year presence in Mexico and operates in various businesses, including media, sports, entertainment, wines, cuisine, retail, and real estate.

Quotes from the Press Release

“We are thrilled to work with Grupo Multimedios, one of Mexico’s most respected media conglomerates, which we feel will act as a tremendous catalyst for growing our online gaming operations in the nation,” said Richard Schwartz, chief executive officer of RSI.

“Mexico represents an attractive market opportunity with a population of more than 130 million, which, when joined with Colombia’s 50 million people, greatly expands RSI’s offering in Latin America. We were blown away by Grupo Multimedios’ executive team and extensive track record of success, which includes the expansion of its digital enterprises in Mexico, which would be tremendously beneficial as we launch and grow our business in Mexico.”

“It’s an honor to begin this relationship with RSI; their experience and incredible staff will assist our group in achieving a new combined vision of continuous growth and entrepreneurship,” said Angel Cong, co-CEO of Multimedios.

“RSI has been successful in the American and Colombian online casino and sportsbook markets; we are certain that we can replicate that success in Mexico.” Both RSI and Multimedios will leverage our media assets to position themselves as a formidable and successful rival as a result of this relationship.”

“As the first US gaming business to open a regulated online gaming sportsbook in Latin America, we have a unique understanding and appreciation for the communities in which we operate, as well as the level of localization required to prosper in the Latin American market” Schwartz continued.

“We look forward to using the infrastructure, operations staff, and relationships created over our five years in Latin America as we expand our best-in-class online gaming platform into Mexico’s booming industry.” We are excited to build on our existing success in Latin America and will continue to grow our regional and global footprint.”
