PointsBet, an Australian sports betting brand, and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) have announced cooperation for a new program that will evaluate how online gambling companies address problem gambling.

More than 700 government, corporate, and clinical stakeholders will be presented with simulated settings in which they must choose the optimal strategy to treat a client displaying indications of gambling addiction. The initiative’s findings will be disclosed in September 2022.

NCPG Is Unwaveringly on Clients’ Side

Keith Whyte, executive director of the National Council on Problem Gaming, believes that all stakeholders should have full access to the operators’ responsible gambling tools.

He emphasized that the greater openness will guarantee that the present procedures are adequate and provide appropriate client protection. Whyte also explained that the effort was not limited to operators.

In his words, regulators, academics, therapy providers, and problem gaming advocates urge for shared player accountability.

The CEO of PointsBet USA, Johnny Aitken, mirrored the NCPG’s viewpoint. He addressed rising worries that the fast development of legalized sports betting throughout the nation was surpassing attempts to safeguard players. A commitment to responsible gambling now will have a direct effect on the future health of players and the industry’s viability.

Aitken emphasized the significance of the new study effort and indicated that PointsBet and the NCPG aimed to develop more effective methods for assisting individuals with gambling addiction. The additional knowledge would also help operators develop player protection procedures.

Launching the New Program with a Joint Survey

The NCPG is the only national non-profit organization in the United States devoted to reducing the negative effects of gambling addiction. With the support of a prominent operator like PointsBet, it is well positioned to raise awareness of problem gambling and reduce its bad effects on society.

During the 2022 National Conference on Gambling Addiction and Responsible Gambling, PointsBet and the NCPG will partner with the Massachusetts Council on Gaming. The event will span four days beginning on July 20, with the theme Better Together: Advocacy, Awareness, and Support.

It intends to bring together representatives of the gaming business, government authorities, researchers, and healthcare professionals. The program features lectures and research from renowned national and worldwide specialists on the effects of problem gambling on different social groups.

PointsBet and the NCPG will conduct their joint survey during the event. The participants will be instructed to assume the role of a gambling operator and interact with three fictitious customers exhibiting potentially risky gaming behavior. Then, they will need to determine the proper measures for each situation.
