Sapphire Has to Acquire License to Install Poker Machines

Before proceeding with its ambitions, Sapphire Las Vegas must first get national and state gaming licenses. However, this may not be as straightforward as Sapphire had planned. 

Local news source Las Vegas Review-Journal said that Clark County Commissioners are slightly hesitant to grant the club a license. 

The commissioners’ hesitation is due to an existing ordinance requiring at least 250 feet of separation between gambling machines and adult entertainment facilities. Nevertheless, this regulation is 43 years old, therefore the commissioners may decide to make an exception.

For the time being, Sapphire Las Vegas must await the decision of the Clark County Commissioners. The latter said that they would not reveal their choice until October or later. 

During that time, the commissioners will determine whether Sapphire Las Vegas merits an exemption. This will largely rely on the commissioners’ evaluation of Sapphire’s company and their ability to determine that a gaming license will not be detrimental to the club’s staff or patrons.

The Club Desires to Reduce Post-COVID Damages

The decision for Sapphire to broaden its offers is a result of its underperforming business. COVID-19 has badly affected the venue, resulting in a dramatic fall in visitors. 

As a consequence, the business lost almost a fourth of its clientele. In addition, the club was one of the last places to reopen in 2020, since it stayed closed for an extended period of time. 

In June, the club submitted an application for a limited gaming license, requesting permission to operate up to 15 gaming machines.

However, the Nevada Resort Association is concerned that if the commissioners allow Sapphire an exemption, this might set a precedent for other strip clubs requesting the same treatment. 

In contrast, Sapphire Las Vegas will not be the first club on the Las Vegas Strip to get a limited license, since Club Platinum and Play It Again Sam already allow gaming. In October or later, the commissioners will determine whether Sapphire is qualified to have a license and publish their verdict.
