Valuable Resource for Maintaining the High Standards of the Industry

The new edition of the Responsible Gaming Statutes and Regulations Guide is its first update since 2019 and is a compilation of all statutes and regulations related to responsible gaming in commercial casinos, sports betting, and online casinos in all 34 states and the District of Columbia.

Cait DeBaun, vice president of Strategic Communications and Responsibility at the American Gaming Association, highlighted the strategic significance of the guide, which is regarded as a valuable resource for helping the industry “maintain its high standards of regulatory compliance in all aspects of responsible gaming.”

DeBaun also praised the efforts of all AGA members to “go above and beyond” their industry-mandated responsibility obligations. Since the last edition of the guide in 2019, two additional states have legalized land-based casinos, sixteen states have legalized sports betting, and two states have legalized online casino gaming.

The industry’s focus on responsibility has only increased with the expansion of legal gaming, according to DeBaun, who emphasized the extended opportunity afforded by RGEM 2022 to affirm the “industry’s responsible leadership” and continue to “strengthen player and employee education.” DeBaun is eager for the “entire US gaming community” to join the efforts throughout the month.

Responsible Participation, Safety, Gaming, and Technology

In 2022, the RGEM was expanded from a week to a month, coinciding with the publication of the new edition of the guide. For the purpose of highlighting the industry’s commitment to responsible gaming, the RGEM is structured around four weekly themes, including Empowering Customers to Play Responsibly, Legal, Regulated Gaming, and Responsible Gaming Education. Protects Players, Employees—the RG Front Line, and Advances Technology for Responsible Gaming.

During RGEM, the AGA will host two webinars on September 15 and 27 to discuss “the state of responsibility and player protection” and “advancing responsible gaming through collaboration and technology.”

Overall, the AGA’s “Have a Game Plan. Bet Responsibly” campaign will be prominently featured during the RGEM 2022, leveraging the knowledge, experience, and expertise of leagues, teams, operators, and other stakeholders to educate consumers on responsible wagering in sports betting market that is continually expanding.

Earlier in August, the AGA released its commercial gaming revenue report for the second quarter of 2022, revealing that the industry achieved a quarterly record of $14.8 billion in revenue.
