The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has confirmed that Reignmakers by DraftKings will no longer be accessible to citizens and customers of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

The regulator notified the sports betting operator of the decision by letter last week. 

Reignmakers is no longer accessible to Pennsylvania residents when they are physically in the state, effective now.

DraftKings Shutters Reignmakers in PGCB

PGCB does not ban residents from competing in Reignmakers events from other states, so long as those jurisdictions permit Reignmakers to operate. 

DraftKings’ failure to provide the required documents with the PGCB may have contributed to the outcome, although the decision did not specify.

Reignmakers by DraftKings is a sports betting contest that resembles fantasy contests and was especially well-liked among NFL fans. 

In fact, the game markets itself as the ”ultimate fantasy franchise” and employs digital player cards certified by the NFL Players Association, with contests offering up to $1 million in prize money.

This occurs more than a year after the product’s first debut in Pennsylvania. Obviously, the fantasy element of the product could not be the primary reason why Reignmakers was shut down; it must have to do with a specific feature of the proposal that the PGCB rejected after reviewing it.

The Reignmakers idea maximizes the usage of non-fantasy trading cards, which may be obtained through free beginning packs and then through card auctions or by purchasing new cards from DraftKings’ secondary marketplace.

NFT Cards Could Have Been the Downfall of Reignmaker

The scoring of waypoints is quite similar to traditional fantasy contests, which has made the game extremely popular not only in Pennsylvania, but also in other states where the company has operational licenses and where fantasy contests are permitted.

There is no limit on the number of money players can spend when assembling a team, and there are five tiers to pick from: Core, Rare, Elite, Legendary, and last but not least, Reignmaker. The PGCB may not be in complete agreement with the NFT component.

State rules mandate that all games must rely on the skill and expertise of the player. In contrast to traditional fantasy games, where players can choose any player to add to their team, Reignmaker may require participants to first collect the draftable cards. This is all conjectural, but it makes sense.
