Pennsylvania: Mount Airy Casino Secures 5-Year License to Operate

Mount Airy Casino

Last week, all five members of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board agreed to recommend that the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Monroe County be granted another year of its Category 2 license.

The Board made the decision after deciding that the operator of Mount Airy #1 had “met the requirements of its previously approved casino operator’s license.” Because of this, the operator’s permit was thought to be good for another five years of operation.

Before voting on whether or not to renew the license, the Board used a process that lets both the operator and the public give information that is important to the decision. The vote was based on this procedure.

On August 3, 2022, a public input hearing was held in the casino’s host municipality, Paradise Township. During this hearing, employees of the Mount Airy Casino Resort brought in evidence and testified about how it has been run since its last license was renewed.

At the meeting held in Paradise Township, attendees from the general public were given the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions regarding the casino and the effects it has had on the community.

Before coming to its decision, the board also looked at what local government officials, community groups, and the Pennsylvania State Police had to say.

The Board also took a look at the data provided by the Gaming Control Board’s Office of Enforcement Counsel, Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement, Office of Compulsive and Problem Gaming, and Bureau of Casino Compliance.

There was also a public hearing in Harrisburg so that board members could ask more questions of officials from Mount Airy #1 about any unresolved issues before the vote on the renewal. The regulator brought up the fact that 861 people who work at the Mount Airy Casino Resort have valid Board licenses.
