The agreement will remain in force until October 2025 and will apply to the labor of around 500 people.

According to Tracy Lingo, who serves as the staff director for Unite Here Local 7, the new deal would result in an increase in the income of tipped workers ranging from a 40-cent to a $2.20-per-hour bump, based on the workers’ previous hourly rate.

Unite Here, Local 7, United Auto Workers, Teamsters International, the International Union of Operating Engineers, and the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Workers were all involved in the coalition bargaining that resulted in the creation of Lingo.

Lingo went on to say that the majority of hikes were between $1.50 and $2 an hour and that non-tipped workers will also receive yearly raises of 80 cents an hour through the year 2025.

She called the fact that the employees would get eight paid holidays a “great improvement,” as reported by the Baltimore Business Journal. Previously, there was no additional compensation for working on holidays, so she considered this change to be a significant improvement.

Lingo continued by saying that in contrast to the existing two-tiered system, which required workers making higher incomes to pay a higher rate for health insurance, the new system will require all employees to pay the same, reduced amount.

Lingo called the agreement “a pretty important settlement” and an “excellent way to set a standard for the rest of the business.”

Workers at the casino asked the casino’s owner, Caesars Entertainment, for raises in pay and paid time off so that their pay would be the same as that of other unionized hospitality businesses in Baltimore.

According to Unite Here Local 7, the casino in Baltimore’s lowest-paid, non-tipped workers made $14.67 an hour before the contract was approved, and they had not received a raise since October 2021. This was before the contract was finalized.

Ceasars Employee in Atlantic City Also Gets Paid

According to Unite Here Local 7, Caesars Entertainment also signed a four-year union contract with its employees in Atlantic City last year. The benefits of this pact included pay rises and paid holidays.

The negotiations for more compensation and improved benefits took place at a time when Caesars was stating that its regional casinos outside of Las Vegas had their “strongest” third quarter of the previous year.

According to information provided by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission, the casino generated approximately $210 million in income from casino gaming in 2022, in addition to millions more from retail sports betting.
