Regarding the proposed development of a Las Vegas Sands casino resort on the site of the former Nassau Coliseum in the state of New York, Hofstra University has penned an open letter to the company.
The trustees of Hofstra University say that the location is not good for a casino because it is close to a number of educational institutions.
The university pointed out that the area around it is important for education and said that it doesn’t agree with the plan because it is close to a number of other educational institutions.
It has been almost nine decades since Hofstra University called its current location home. During that time, the institution has transformed from a small liberal arts college into a large university with thousands of students. According to what is stated in the letter, it is a major economic driver for the town, country, and state and employs approximately 2,500 people.
In addition, Hofstra pointed out that it is the only university in the United States to have successively hosted all three of the presidential debates that have taken place.
The university also provided specific information regarding its community service-oriented programs and activities. Students at Hofstra University make up approximately one-quarter of the approximately 40,000 students who are located in the area surrounding the Nassau Hub.
Nassau Hub Not Good Place for A Casino
Hofstra thinks that the Nassau Hub is not a good place for a casino because it is close to a number of schools and universities. In addition, it was stated that there are some communities that should not be put in danger by the increased dangers that can be caused by gambling.
The Nassau Hub is not an appropriate location in any way, shape, or form for a casino. It is surrounded by preschools, elementary schools, high schools, colleges, and graduate schools, as well as a number of suburban communities that shouldn’t have to deal with more traffic, more crime, less money for local businesses, and other bad things that a casino would probably bring.
The trustees of Hofstra University are of the opinion that there are a great number of places in and around New York City that are not as close to educational institutions and would make much better locations for a future casino.
