Orleans Casino Gets Coronavirus Tests from Clark County

The Clark County Commission, in partnership with University Medical Center (UMC), is now offering drive-thru coronavirus testing at Boyd Gaming owned Orleans Casino.

Testing available at the casino

The Orleans Casino will be holding coronavirus tests on May 5 and May 6. The property, located at 4500 West Tropicana Avenue, has been closed since mid-March after the government urged all non-essential businesses to shut shop. People who are interested in getting tested for respiratory issues are being advised to make an appointment via the University Medical Center website.

The testing will be conducted between 8 am and 4 pm on the first floor of the Orleans parking garage. The facility will conduct up to 300 tests each day. The cost of these operations will be borne via federal funding though the CARES Act and will be applicable to people who don’t have insurance. The commission said,

“People who have insurance will be asked to provide it for billing purposes, and depending on their insurance, may not have a co-pay.”

The tests will be performed by medical professionals and results will be available within 24 to 48 hours.

The Twin River Casino in Rhode Island, which is one of the two gaming properties of the state, opened its gates for a CVS Health testing drive in its premises earlier. The pharmacy operator held rapid tests with a capacity of 1,000 tests per day at the site. The tests were also conducted in the parking garage of the property.

County Commissioners believe that increasing testing is one of the most important steps in reopening the Clark County for people safely. In a press release, Commissioner Michael Naft said that it is a crucial step for them and the local authority wants to provide more locations in the future where similar testing drives could be conducted.

Gov. Steve Sisolak unveiled his reopening plan last week, which suggested a May 15 deadline for reopening some businesses. Casinos, bars, and restaurants may have to wait longer as they could be opened during phase 4 of the reopening. However, some operators on the Strip have already started accepting room reservations for Memorial Day weekend. They come under the jurisdiction of the commission.

The state has reported 5,246 coronavirus infections to date with 262 deaths. Clark County has 4,274 cases ad 218 deaths. Its recovery rate is high at 69% with 2,496 recoveries.
