Michigan is eyeing yet another sportsbook with BetAmerica. Churchill Downs Inc. announced this Wednesday that it will be operating its BetAmerica sportsbooks in the state.

A partnership with Hannahville Tribe

Churchill Downs Inc. has reached an agreement with the Hannahville Indian Community recently. The firm will now operate the BetAmerica sportsbooks at the casinos of the tribe as well as its online platforms. The retail sportsbooks will be located in the Island Resort and Casino in Harris. The application is still waiting for regulatory approval. Therefore, Churchill Downs has not given a timeline for the opening of the sportsbook.

The tribal chairperson for the Island Resort and Casino from Hannahville Indian Community, Kenneth Meshigaud commented on the agreement and said,

“The BetAmerica sportsbook will expand upon our already compelling number of entertainment options, and provides another great reason for people to come and visit us up here on Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula.”

BetAmerica is currently operating in four states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Mississippi, and Indiana. Of these, iGaming is available in Pennsylvania and New Jersey while online betting is available in all states except Mississippi according to SafeBettingSites.com.

Crowded Michigan market

Michigan is one of the most promising sports betting markets in the US and several sportsbooks are competing with each other to gain supremacy in the state. It is the eighth-most populous state in the country with a significant love for sports, which creates endless opportunities for sportsbook lovers. Four betting providers have announced their plans to operate in the state since April.

Amongst these, DraftKings is working with Nay Mills Resort and Casino, GAN is partnering with the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians while Rush Street Interactive will be working with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians via its BetRivers.com sportsbook offering. Kambi also announced a partnership with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians. The retail sportsbooks of their Four Winds Casinos have already opened. PointsBet also partnered with the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians in January to operate a sportsbook at the Northern Waters Casino.
