Teen Patti

Teen Patti is one of the most popular card games in India and it’s also popular in South Asia. It is influenced by the British game three-card brag and has similarities with poker. This game is usually played by at least 3 to six players and a 52-card pack (jokers not included) is needed. Like poker and other rummy games, Teen Patti starts with players having to place a bet. Now both options are very similar to playing poker but what sets Teen Patti apart is that if a player decides to raise the bet, all other players are also obliged to do so. And so, if the 1st player bets 2 coins and another decides to bet 4 coins, the 1^st player will have to add 4 more coins on his or her bet.

With that, the pot money could go higher and higher as the game progresses. Whoever sticks to the game until the completion of hand is the winner. If two or more players are on the table, whoever has the best or highest hand of cards will win.

Here is the ranking of cards (highest to lowest) that determines who the winner will be:

• Trail or Set – hands have three cards of the same ranks. The aces are the highest with three twos as the lowest.
• Pure Sequence or Straight Flush – Three consecutive cards from the same suit
• Sequence or Run – Three consecutive cards of a different suit
• Color – The same cards of the same suit that are not consecutive or in sequence
• Pair (two cards of the same rank) – When a player has a pair of the same value, the kicker’s card will determine the winner.
• High Card – Three cards in a different sequence and are not from the same suit. No two cards should also have the same value. If there are two players with a high card, the next highest card will be the basis of the winner.

Andar Bahar

Another popular card game in India is Andar Bahar or also known as Katti. If you have no experience in playing any card games, this could be a good game to start with because of its simplicity. The game is usually played between one player and a dealer but this can also be played by as many players as one would wish. A standard deck of 52 cards is also needed.

Andar Bahar could start in two ways. Some would reveal the central card before cutting the cards and some would do so after cutting the cards. Either way, once the central card is in place, the players can then place a bet on which side of the card will a matching card be placed: the Andar side or the Bahar side.

There is a rule followed when dealing with the cards on either side of the central card. If the central card is in a red suit, the first card dealt will be placed on Bahar. If the central card is in a black suit, the first dealt card will be placed on Andar. If a player placed a bet on Andar and the first matching card lands on Andar, then the player wins. If there are more players on the table, the rest who placed a bet on the other side without the matching card are eliminated.
