Reid died quietly and surrounded by family on December 28, according to a statement from his widow, Landra Reid. Miller said in a statement released in response to Reid’s passing, “From his days as chairman of the Nevada Casino Commission to his term as majority leader, Senator Reid’s impact on Nevada and the gaming sector is unmatched.” He was the undisputed king of gaming.

“I’m grateful to have known the senator throughout my Washington, DC, career.” Senator Reid was without a doubt one of the most astute and effective political minds to ever enter the fray. We extend our sympathies to his wife, family, and friends on behalf of the AGA. May the remembrance of his life be a blessing.”

He passed away quietly this afternoon, surrounded by family, after a valiant four-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Harry was 82 years old when he died. For 62 years, we were married.

“We are very proud of the legacy he has carved out for himself on the national stage and in his adopted state of Nevada. Harry was moved to tears recently to learn that his decades of service to Nevada had been recognized with the renaming of Las Vegas airport in his honor.

“Harry was a dedicated family man and an incredibly dependable friend. We are really appreciative of the outpouring of support we have received over the last few years. We are very appreciative of the doctors and nurses that treated him. Please understand how much it meant to him.”

Less than two weeks ago, officials and one of his sons, Rory Reid, commemorated the airport’s rebranding as Harry Reid international airport.
