DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation announced that they had reached an agreement to expand their relationship and pave the way for the launch of the DraftKings online and retail sports betting experience in Puerto Rico, subject to the receipt of all necessary licenses and regulatory approvals. 

The statement comes after Foxwoods and DraftKings successfully began sports betting and iGaming in Connecticut on October 19, 2021, as previously announced.

After receiving all necessary licenses and permits, the DraftKings retail sportsbook will be located inside the Foxwoods El San Juan Casino and is expected to open within the next few weeks, subject to all necessary licenses and regulatory requirements clearances. If everything goes according to plan, the facility will have a giant video wall, bar and eating facilities, two over-the-counter ticket windows, and six betting kiosks.

DraftKings & Foxwoods team up in Puerto Rico

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods announced intentions to reopen the historic El San Juan Casino as the “Foxwoods El San Juan Casino” in January 2021. The casino was previously known as the “El San Juan Casino.” Resort enhancements of $137.5 million were made as part of the rebuilding of the opulent casino resort, which included the reopening of the Tropicoro entertainment arena, which was previously closed.

In addition to offering online and retail sports betting, DraftKings will have the opportunity to offer customers in Puerto Rico its legacy daily fantasy sports product, which is currently available in 44 states in the United States and operational in six countries internationally, pending the receipt of applicable licenses and regulatory approvals.
