The Committee Is Prepared to Present Esports Betting Recommendations

Monday was the second meeting of the committee, which lasted over three hours. Several data vendors, like Oddin.gg, an eSports live odds provider located in Europe, gave presentations. They described how their solutions may facilitate the creation of an eSports-centric betting platform. Seth Schorr, a committee member, remarked that the discussion was fruitful and had supplied the group with the knowledge necessary to make educated recommendations. Schorr is the chief executive officer of Fifth Street Gaming, a full-service hotel and casino management corporation located in Las Vegas. According to him, Nevada will soon be ready to permit eSports wagering without concern about integrity breaches.

The most contentious issue is whether or not eSports should come under current Regulation 22. The document regulates all elements of sportsbooks’ operations and particularly relates to sportsbooks.

In addition to recordkeeping and parlay wagers, these regulations specify the types of wagers that may be accepted. According to Schorr, as long as eSports is classified as a sport, operators should be allowed to handle it similarly, provided that the event complies with current regulatory rules. The CEO of Fifth Street Gaming drew parallels to dart leagues that did not need official Gaming Control Board clearance.

Instead, it was up to the event’s organizers to determine whether the event matched the requirements. To accept wagers on eSports events, bookmakers must get a special license from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. This authorization is only valid for a certain tournament and must be renewed for each new league.

Members of the committee agree that eSports wagering is comparable to gambling on conventional athletic events. They must now assess if particular regulation is necessary. If the Gaming Control Board decides that current regulatory safeguards are enough to prevent match-fixing and other types of cheating, eSports tournaments might be handled similarly to other athletic events.

New technological solutions would benefit operators

Eric Bowers, vice president of innovation at Boyd Gaming, was eager to give guidance to the Commission. Once eSports wagering achieved regulatory permission, he recommended many methods for recruiting the most clients. He agreed that Regulation 22 was adequate and that marketing, branding, and a successful launch should be the key emphasis. Bowers foresaw the need for a distinct betting application centered on live broadcasting. He was certain that, if managed properly, the formal debut of eSports betting in Nevada would garner enormous interest, and that the endeavor would be very profitable for all parties involved.
