“Key Step” to US Sports Betting Growth

Jason Trost, founder and chief executive officer of Smarkets, emphasized the significance of the company’s decision to create an office in Washington, D.C. Smarkets, a company founded in 2008, has been operating from its headquarters in London and an office in Malta.

The opening of a new office in the US capital will greatly enhance the company’s footprint not just on the US market but also on a global scale. In 2019, Smarkets partnered with Full House Resorts to get market access for its SBK online sportsbook in Colorado via Bronco Billy’s Casino in Cripple Creek and Indiana via Rising Star Casino.

Almost a year later, in June 2020, the SBK sportsbook debuted in Colorado by going live. Recently, Smarkets collaborated with Affinity Interactive to power Iowa’s SBK sportsbook. The SBK application is also licensed for use in Indiana.

“Engaging Tech Environment”

Sheldon Hanai, the newly appointed US general manager, stated that the company has been preparing for some time to create an office on the East Coast and that Washington, DC was his particular preference “owing to its thriving tech scene and diversified talent pool.”

Smarkets intends to hire business development, operations, and marketing staff for its Washington, DC office. Hanai will also work from the company’s new office in the capital city.

In May, the United Kingdom-based betting exchange operator struck a contract with Strive Sponsorship to provide content, podcasts, and editing services for its Smarkets News and SBK Betting Zone.

The cooperation between Smarkets and Strive has been active for the past four years, with Strive providing compelling sports content and services for Smarkets’ social media platforms.
