FanDuel

Company’s Return to Nevada After 7 Years

As reported by The Nevada Independent, FanDuel will give betting odds and make suggestions on any wagering line adjustments to the Fremont sportsbook staff, who will continue to be Boyd employees. According to the new arrangement, FanDuel will get an unknown portion of the sportsbook’s gaming income.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Nevada gaming regulators questioned FanDuel CEO Amy Howe whether the company’s branding of the sportsbook inside Boyd’s Fremont Hotel Casino may cause any misunderstanding. She and Las Vegas attorney Erica Okerberg said that the relationship is comparable to tribal gambling sportsbooks that bear the FanDuel name in a number of jurisdictions.

The company handles sports betting in 15 states in partnership with many casinos. Boyd owns 5% of FanDuel and offers sports betting at its ten casinos in the Las Vegas metropolitan region through Boyd Sports, its retail and mobile sports wagering company.

FanDuel would therefore return to Nevada, where it ran daily fantasy sports games until October 2015, when state gaming authorities concluded that daily fantasy constituted a form of sports betting. If the corporations and other daily fantasy businesses wanted to provide daily fantasy sports in the state, they had to be licensed as sports betting operators, which ended their Nevada activities.

FanDuel Sportsbook Year’s Milestones

Howe said on Wednesday that FanDuel has about 2,500 workers nationwide. She informed the control board that neither daily fantasy sports nor FanDuel’s mobile sports betting app will be offered in Nevada. The FanDuel sportsbook section at the Fremont will include FanDuel branding as well as 76 seats, a high-definition television viewing wall, four betting windows, and seven betting kiosks. It will use a technological platform offered by Boyd’s sports betting partner International Game Technology (IGT), which is also a partner of FanDuel in other states.

FanDuel will handle retail and mobile sports betting with Boyd casinos in eight of the company’s nine regional states by the beginning of 2019. Through its collaboration with FanDuel, Boyd offers online casinos in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Late in July, Boyd Gaming reported second-quarter revenues of $894.5 million, up marginally from $893.6 million for the same time previous year. The slight 0.1% growth occurred despite a 6% reduction in its gaming activities, which decreased by about $40 million to $684,9 million from $727,5 million in Q2 2021. Motivated by the favorable results, the firm intends to increase its retail and digital presence in the United States.

The business’s plan involves the anticipated completion of the previously announced $170 million cash purchase of California-based online gaming startup Pala Interactive. Boyd hopes that the transaction will close by the end of the year, ahead of the previously announced completion date in the first quarter of 2023. The purchase of Pala is a part of Boyd’s plan for the online gambling market, which also includes sports betting. Due to the recent legalization of sports betting in Kansas and Ohio, the operator plans to launch retail and mobile sports betting in these jurisdictions alongside FanDuel.
