CQ Holdings Will Invest $35 Million in Onshore Real Estate

CQ Holdings has proposed to the Louisiana Gaming Control Board a $35 million investment to convert its Belle of Baton Rouge riverboat casino into a land-based casino. Each member of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board voted in favor of the initiative, which will result in the creation of 200 new jobs in Baton Rouge.

This is the second project of this type undertaken by CQ Holdings, which is completing the relocation of its other riverboat casino, Hollywood Casino, to an onshore location in Baton Rouge.

The project began in 2021, and the new land-based casino is anticipated to open in June-July 2023. The new Belle of Baton Rouge project will be housed in the company’s hotel property, which is located on the riverfront in downtown Baton Rouge and worked in conjunction with the riverboat casino.

Due to pandemic restrictions, the hotel was closed in 2020; however, with the launch of the new project, it will undergo extensive renovations.

In 2024, the New Landside Casino will open its doors

The casino and hotel are scheduled to open to the public in May 2024. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2023.

The casino floor will stretch 16,500 square feet, while the sports book will encompass approximately 2,500 square feet. There will be a variety of culinary options available, including an oyster bar and a pizza counter. In addition to a wine bar, the casino will offer bowling for customers.

Additionally, CQ Holdings will provide American Cruise Lines access to the venue’s port. American Cruise Lines will make a 10-hour stay at the casino in Baton Rouge so that their passengers can gamble.

The hotel, which has a total of 90 rooms, will undergo renovations as part of the expansive project. It will reopen with the casino following a permanent closure caused by the pandemic.

Terry Downey, chief executive officer of CQ Holdings, remarked that the hotel building is vast and has tremendous potential. In December 2020, CQ Holdings acquired the riverboat casino Belle of Baton Rouge and associated hotel complex from Caesars Entertainment.
