Is Real Gambling Coming to Mirage?

Recently, Ubisoft introduced Assassin’s Creed Mirage, a new installment in the acclaimed Assassin’s Creed franchise. However, one peculiar aspect jumped out to enthusiasts. 

When Assassin’s Creed fans tried to pre-order the game, they were astonished to learn that it was rated PG 18+ and intended for adults only. Ubisoft justified this rating with the game’s content, which, according to Ubisoft, contains extreme violence, blood, and gore, sexual themes, partial nudity, and. actual gambling.

While the rest of the cautions were expected, the “actual gambling” designation surprised the supporters. Initially, no one was certain of its true meaning. 

Some speculated that this indicates the game will feature loot boxes and other forms of commercial content. Others assumed that “real gambling” meant that the game could have an online casino minigame in which users could place real-money wagers. Such a minigame existed in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, albeit it was fully dependent on in-game cash. Fortunately, Ubisoft was quick to fix the situation and clarify the confusion.

The Tag Error Was Careless.

According to the corporation, the real gambling’ label was an error. Ubisoft stated that Assassin’s Creed Mirage would not include any type of gambling, including loot boxes. The developers then apologized for the confusion their error had caused.

A Ubisoft representative said in an interview with Eurogamer, a video game news website, that following the launch of Assassin’s Creed Mirage during Ubisoft Forward, some retail pages presented the game for pre-order with an Adults Only ESRB rating. While the rating for Assassin’s Creed Mirage is still pending, Ubisoft wishes to reassure fans that the game does not contain real gambling or treasure boxes.

Ubisoft swiftly corrected the incorrect rating. The game’s rating is currently pending, however, the developer stated that it will likely be 17+. A few days ago, Assassin’s Creed Mirage was announced, following rumors of an upcoming Baghdad-themed game. 

Ubisoft also stated that the game would be released in 2023, but did not specify a specific date. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Many fans would be pleased to learn that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed will not include loot boxes, as microtransactions have come to be highly criticized by both parents and a significant portion of the gaming community.
