First Top-to-Bottom Review 

But it remains to be seen if this authority is employed in a way that ultimately benefits the gambling business as a whole or individual customers. 

The scope of the committee’s work is expansive, and its members have not been bashful about calling it the “first top-to-bottom review” of the gambling laws of the state in more than two decades.

Opening the door to a wider discussion on legalization

The stakeholders are receiving conflicting messages with John Lively in the chair. There are already a variety of gambling opportunities available in Indiana. These opportunities include social gambling, tracks for horse racing and dog racing, charitable lotteries, and plain old lotteries.

Now, Lively wants to investigate whether or not there should be more done to expand the current regulation and determine what the most effective manner would be to do so. In a statement that he gave to the KLCC, he claimed that the committee would look into what are widely regarded as essential moving parts of the sector.

Sports Betting Shares a Significant Contribute 

At the moment, the only kind of legal gambling that can be conducted in the state is through the Oregon Lottery, which is also the sector that brings in the most money for the state when it comes to gaming. Bingo and raffles are both very well-liked activities, and both horse racing and off-track betting contribute significantly to the state’s coffers.

In the meantime, it should be noted that casinos do exist. There are around eight of these that are owned by businesses in Oregon, in addition to two properties controlled by tribes.

Determined to get things moving in the right direction

But there is one thing that cannot be disputed. The committee that Lively is currently chairing will be granted the authority to work on legislation, which will then be brought to the House for a vote. Any potential legislation might then be swiftly delivered to the Senate from that location. The speed with which legislation on gambling could be passed is a very separate issue.

The state of Oregon, for the most part, does not have a starting point, and the major issue of striking a balance between state and tribal enterprises, which has proven to be a difficult challenge in many cases in the past, has not even been considered.
