The New York State Gaming Commission, which is in charge of regulating gambling in the state, gave the go-ahead for new regulations that will affect the marketing, promotions, and advertising of sports betting in the state.

The announcement was made on Monday, immediately following a meeting of the regulatory body, during which the new regulations received the Commission’s unanimous approval.

Following this, the regulations would be up for public discussion for a period of sixty days. During that period, there is the potential for modifications to be made to the rules, and at the conclusion of the term, the regulator would have the final say.

Restricting the alternatives available for marketing and advertising to people under the age of 18 is a significant aspect of the adjustments that are being made.

The ultimate goal of the new regulations is to prevent advertisements for sports betting from being enticing in any way to anyone who is under the age at which they are permitted to place bets, including children.

The use of news outlets or other resources that are under the control of universities or colleges for advertising or promotion of sports betting services will be illegal under the new regulations.

This means that schools and universities can’t let people who run businesses where people bet on sports use their radio stations, newspapers, or other forms of communication to advertise their businesses.

Because of another part of the rules, the ads for sports betting will also look different. This means that, according to the new rules, those ads can’t be made in a way that would make them appealing to anyone under the age at which gambling is legal in the state of New York. Under the new rules, you can’t show anything like funny music or cartoon characters that would appeal to a younger audience.

It should come as no surprise that the rules forbid the use of brand names, trademarks, logos, or other statements on children’s toys, games, clothing, or other items that are intended for use by children.

“To the extent that promotional products contain sports betting messages or brand information, a sports pool licensee and its employees shall use commercially reasonable efforts to make sure that these products are only given to people who are of legal age to bet on sports,” the new rules say.

“A sports pool licensee must make all commercially reasonable efforts to make sure that these products are only given to people who are of age to bet on sports.”

New York in More Comprehensive Betting Restrictions to Minors

In a similar vein, the regulations governing advertisements for sports betting restrict the representation of minors and also forbid endorsements from those who are under the age of 18.

Because of this, the companies that run betting operations won’t be able to work with children or use testimonials or endorsements from children in any of their marketing materials.

When all is said and done, the purpose of the new regulations is to protect the younger population and guarantee an efficient regulatory structure that forbids service providers from directing their services toward children or interacting with them in any way.

The Commission has confirmed, in addition to the new restrictions, that there is an increased interest in the three additional casino licenses that are available for venues located downstate.
