Hard Rock Soon to Replace Mirage’s Volcano with Guitar Tower

Hard Rock - The Mirage

Clark County commissioners gave the go-ahead for Hard Rock International’s proposed guitar-shaped hotel tower at The Mirage, a proposal that would eliminate the property’s famed volcano feature.

On Wednesday, the Las Vegas City Council unanimously authorized Hard Rock’s plans for a 600-room, 660-foot-tall tower along Las Vegas Boulevard. The resort, which is now run by Hard Rock after the city and the company reached an agreement last year, will be on Las Vegas Boulevard.A representative for Hard Rock, Jennifer Lazovich, told the panel that the high-rise would be built.

She added that the business intends to “modernize theme” the remainder of the property to complement the guitar tower. Her client has stated that it intends to rebrand The Mirage as a Hard Rock resort. The proposed tower is supposed to resemble black-to-back guitars with “brightly lighted strings” and floor-to-ceiling glass panes, according to a letter from land-use attorney Lazovich of Kaempfer Crowell to the corporation.

Intends to Modernize the Theme after Acquiring Hard Rock’s

In December, MGM Resorts International sold The Mirage’s operations to Hard Rock for more than $1 billion in cash. Vici Properties, the casino landlord, owns the Mirage’s real estate and its deal with Hard Rock asks for an initial yearly fee of $90 million. In late 2021, when their acquisition of the Mirage was first announced, Hard Rock revealed plans for a guitar-shaped tower on the property. The company is well-known for its large decorative guitars, and it has already constructed a 450-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel tower in Florida.

When the guitar opened in 2019 as part of a $1.5 billion expansion at the Seminole Hard Rock casino resort, Hard Rock stated that its six high-powered light beams project at least 20,000 feet into the sky, simulating an imaginary guitar neck. In 1989, casino developer Steve Wynn developed The Mirage. It was the Strip’s first contemporary megaresort and rapidly drew massive people. Over the years, it became famous for its volcano and extensive Siegfried & Roy presentations.

Constructing Enormous Casino Resorts with Extensive Facilities

The project also started a trend in Las Vegas that has lasted for decades: the building of huge casino resorts with a lot of facilities. As of Wednesday afternoon, a Change.org petition to “rescue” The Mirage’s volcano had received 8,974 signatures.

The petition argues that since its inception, The Volcano has delighted The Mirage’s guests with “an increasingly unusual and utterly spectacular free Las Vegas attraction and highly emotional experience,” and that it should be designated a historical landmark. On Wednesday, however, when county commissioners considered the guitar tower and opened the hearing to public discussion, nobody came up.

According to the project’s renderings, the resort will also have approximately a 3,000-seat theater, new restaurants, shops, and pools. The organization indicated that the construction schedule will be announced later this year.
