Mandatory Diversity Plan Submission by Operators

The objective of the SWARC is to compel operators to diversify their teams. All wagering companies must submit a diversification plan to offer mobile gambling in the Old Line State.

In addition, the corporations will be required to comply with three conditions, including a commitment to diversify their workforces and to keep the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission apprised of their progress. Lastly, businesses must make their plans available to the public.

According to the SWARC, any employee from a disadvantaged group whose inclusion in the Diversity Plan would be advantageous shall be approved.

The licenses of operators who fail to meet diversity quotas due to a flawed plan will not be in jeopardy. Instead, authorities will work directly with operators to assist them in revising their plans. The new regulations reaffirm Maryland’s dedication to equity. The state expects the new diversity policies to help local companies compete with gambling industry titans.

Maryland Continues Dedicated to Equity

Darryl Barnes, State Delegate of Maryland and Chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland, praised SWARC’s new project. He lauded the authority’s commitment to equity and willingness to advocate for the inclusion of minority groups.

Barnes is pleased with the unique diversity regulations but feels the Maryland regulator should compel corporations to submit a diversity strategy before acquiring a license.

Additionally, Maryland recommended additional laws regarding minority groups and commercial sports betting. Speaker of the House Adrienne Jones, and Senate President Bill Ferguson highlighted that the legalization of sports betting in Maryland was intended to promote diversity in the industry.

They adopted new diversity-related restrictions on Friday, including laws requiring sports betting companies to seek out minority investors, utilize Maryland’s minority business enterprise program, and present a diversity plan.

Jones and Ferguson are optimistic that the new rules will secure “substantial minority involvement” in the state’s sports betting market. Next Friday, a public hearing regarding the abovementioned regulations will be held in Baltimore.
