Station Casinos

Eyeing New Development and Innovation this Time

The 260-room Wild Wild West, located on Tropicana Avenue west of Interstate 15, will be closed to destroy and repurpose the property. Friday’s message from parent business Red Rock Resorts first informed staff of the news, which was later posted on Twitter.

The message, penned by Red Rock Resorts President Scott Kreeger, says that the firm will close the Wild Wild West Casino and Hotel “to reposition the site for future development.”

According to the document, by completing the venue, the corporation will be able to “maximize the potential of the location and the surrounding neighborhood.”

Since 1998, Red Rock Resorts has owned a modest casino with 164 slot machines and no table games. The hotel’s 260 rooms are managed by an external partner, Day’s Inn.

The operator intends to combine Wild Wild West’s current 20 acres of land with an adjacent 80 acres for an unannounced project.

Station Casinos struck an agreement with transportation officials last year on a $305 million makeover of the Interstate 15-Tropicana Avenue intersection, which would not impact the company’s development of the Wild Wild West property.

Las Vegas Review-Journal remembers that at the time, Station executives revealed plans to construct a “megaresort” at that location.

Station Casinos to Initiate Recent Developments in the Market

Station Casinos has already taken initial moves to demolish Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho, and Texas Station. The recent decision to close Wild Wild West adds to an already busy year for the company.

The three hotels, closed since the outbreak, were slated for destruction in July, with the idea of selling the ground underneath them.

Review-Journal notes that there are clear development traces at the abandoned homes, including a mixture of excavators, construction trailers, and asphalt in the parking lots.

The corporation has also begun overcoming regulatory obstacles: the city of Henderson issued a permit for the destruction of Fiesta Henderson on Wednesday, while the city of North Las Vegas issued a license for Texas Station on August 9.

A Fiesta Rancho application was also submitted to North Las Vegas. In August, Red Rock Resorts officials announced their plans to “essentially double” the company’s portfolio by 2030.

Consequently, as the corporation continues with its closures and demolitions, it simultaneously presses forward with its plans for new buildings.

In July, the casino operator catering to locals acquired 126 acres south of the Strip at the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus Avenue for $173,4 million, possibly in preparation for a new resort. In addition, the building continues on the southwest valley hotel-casino site on Durango Drive, south of the 215 Beltway.

Station’s upcoming Durango Casino & Resort is anticipated to cost $750 million and will feature more than 200 rooms, a casino floor that spans more than 73,000 square feet, meeting and banquet space, and four restaurants, according to recently released plans.

The business commenced ground on Durango in March, with completion scheduled for fall 2023. At Red Rock Casino, a scale model of the forthcoming venue is on display.
