Boston Billiard Club & Casino in Nashua, New Hampshire, announced recently that it has finished the installation and launch of fifty historical horse racing (HHR) gaming machines, the first of more than 300 machines planned for the charitable gaming casino.

The activation of fifty HHR gaming machines on October 27 coincided with the completion of Delaware North’s acquisition of Boston Billiard Club & Casino from owners Kurt and Susan Mathews. 

The New Hampshire Lottery Commission has authorized the transaction.

Aiming to Attract More People to the Area 

The HHR gaming machines, which look and operate similarly to other gaming machines but instead of randomly determining the outcome of a play determine winners based on previously run horse races, are an integral part of the patron experience alongside the casino’s 17 table games, 16 poker tables, restaurant and bar amenities.

As a charitable gambling operation in New Hampshire, Boston Billiard Club & Casino contributes “a large amount” of daily gaming revenues, including 35% of table game activity, to local 501(c)(3) groups. According to the organization, the total donations will shortly top $15 million in less than six years.

In a press release, Brian Hansberry, president of Delaware North’s gaming business, stated that the addition of gaming machines will attract more people from the region to visit Boston Billiard Club & Casino, increasing the benefit for charitable organizations. 

Hansberry explained that Delaware North became interested in acquiring Boston Billiard Club & Casino after New Hampshire passed legislation last year to allow HHR gaming machines at licensed gaming operations.

After Delaware North’s Buyout, The Company Prepared for Long Term Plan

The machines are replacing the billiard tables, for which a long-term plan is being prepared. Delaware North anticipates adding 20 new jobs to the venue, in addition to maintaining 200 existing positions. 

Delaware North’s gaming industry involves owning and operating casinos and other gaming businesses in what are now eight states, as well as in Darwin, Australia.

In addition, Delaware North operates retail and/or mobile sports betting in Arkansas, Tennessee, and West Virginia, and is close to completing a $320 million expansion of Southland Casino Hotel in Arkansas.
