Getting Ahead of Permanent Casino in 2024

Danville Register & Bee says that city manager Ken Larking confirmed the company’s plans in an interview on Wednesday. Caesars officials referenced the Danville plans multiple times during their most recent call with investors, during which they also stated that a temporary casino in Columbus, Nebraska is expected to open by mid-2023. The Danville property is required by law to be located at the Schoolfield site, as it was the location stated in the casino referendum question approved by voters in November 2020.

The casino would thus be in Danville sooner than planned, which is excellent news for the city. Larking stated to the mentioned source, they would certainly welcome extra tax revenues for the city. As with all other operations, the cost of doing business for the city government is rising.

Caesars Virginia is presently under development following the August groundbreaking. The permanent venue is anticipated to earn up to $38 million in tax income for the city once it is operational in 2024. Caesars stated at the casino’s launching that it will “serve as a tourism magnet and economic engine for Danville and the surrounding area.”

Creating a Word Class Casino with Variety of Amenities

Whiting-Turner, a company that also built the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore, is the contractor constructing the Danville casino complex. Plans for the property include a 500-room hotel and a “world-class” casino with over 1,300 slot machines, 85 live table games, 24 electronic table games, a WSOP poker area, and a Caesars Sportsbook.

In addition, the resort will provide a full-service spa, a pool, upscale bars and restaurants, a 2,500-seat state-of-the-art live entertainment theater, and 40,000 square feet of meeting and conference space. There will be the creation of 900 construction jobs and 1,300 operational positions.

Caesars Entertainment and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) are collaborating on the project. Caesars will serve as the casino’s manager and will form a joint venture with EBCI and a local minority investor. In the interim, the Caesars Sportsbook app is up and available for download and registration throughout the state of Virginia.

In August, Caesars Entertainment’s President and Chief Operating Officer, Anthony Carano, stated that they are thrilled to create a world-class Caesars resort in Danville with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, a cherished partner of Caesars Entertainment for more than two decades.

Caesars’ diversified selection of sites around the United States is synonymous with unmatched service, amazing rewards via Caesars Rewards loyalty program, celebrity entertainment talent, and culinary excellence. People will be able to experience the same wonderful offerings in the Danville area, he noted.

The original completion date for the project was December 2023. Due to supply chain challenges and manpower constraints, it was revealed in May that the opening date would be pushed back, with Robert Livingston, senior vice president of development for Caesars Entertainment, calling the initial date as “an impossible target.”
