The Hempfield Township could see a new wave of activity as the Cordish Companies have started the renovations for their newest mini-casino. The facility will be based in the Westmoreland Mall and will add a 100,000 square feet space for gaming, entertainment, and dining. It will occupy a vacant stretch in the mall near Pittsburgh.

A $150 million project

The new mini-casino- dubbed Live! Casino West will be built for a total cost of $150 million. The property will feature 30 live table games and 750 slot games. It will also come with a retail sportsbook. The construction of the property alone will bring $148 million to the annual economy. Later, it could add $188 million to the annual economy and create 500 permanent job openings.

Cordish Companies started demolition in the mall area in April this year. However, the company hasn’t provided a date for the completion of the property. According to our estimates, it should open by summer 2020.

Working on new ideas

The company is also investing in a larger casino property near the local sports stadiums of South Philadelphia. This venue will host a poker room, a restaurant, meeting places, and a sportsbook. The new casino would be called Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia and will be in operation by the end of 2020.

Jon Cordish, the principle of The Cordish Companies, said that the new mini-casino would add great economic value to the Westmoreland County. He also said that the company is finally expanding its ‘distinctive brand’ in the state and aims to bring a safe and friendly environment for the patrons.

The mini-casino will feature a restaurant that will combine a lounge and a gaming venue, called Sports & Social Steel City. The two-level facility will have 445 seats alongside a 45-foot tall LED video screen for viewing live sporting events. It will also offer bowling and a gold simulator alongside other interactive games to the patrons. The company aims to create an entertainment and social space that remains abuzz with activity all year round. The year-round clubhouse mini-casino will also come with live music and more to keep the users coming back for more.

The mini-casino is one of the first such facilities in Pennsylvania. It will pave the way for other similar properties that aim to provide entertainment and gaming options in smaller locations.
