NGCB workshop A Tuesday workshop of the NGCB could be instrumental in deciding the reopening plans for the state’s gaming properties. One of the largest gaming markets in the world, the state’s properties, has been closed since mid-March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Several gaming operators have now authored their reopening plans while others are mulling over the reopening schedule. The agenda of the workshop focus on laying directives and plans for the licensed casinos in the state by the gaming board and Gov. Steve Sisolak. One of the most likely people to speak during the workshop is Caleb Cage, the Nevada COVID-19 Response Director. He was recently appointed to the newly created position. He may explain how his office will impact the gaming sector. This would be one of his first public events as the director. Cage was previously working as the chief of the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security Advisor. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy, West Points, and has also served the US Army in Iraq and Germany. He also worked as the executive director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. He has also worked as an administrator in the higher education system of the state. In a statement released on Monday, Gov. Sisolak praised Cage and said, “Mr. Cage has proven invaluable to the State in its effort to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Cage brings a wealth of experience that will ensure our federally supported, state-managed, and locally executed response plan is effective in the immediate and the long-term.” Who all will be present? Apart from Cage, the chairperson of the gaming board, Sandra Douglass Morgan, will also be available during the workshop. She has played an instrumental role in devising a casino reopening policy. Her draft has been accepted by both the board and the Nevada Gaming Commission. Morgan predicted during a recent meeting at the commission that some of the gaming properties will submit additional regulations while creating their own reopening plans. She said that the commission documents include universal policies for operations for gaming properties which will be applicable to all small and big venues. University Medical Center CEO Mason Van Houweling is also expected to speak at the workshop. He will discuss the testing operations of the UMC in partnership with some casinos.
