• The Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut announced last week that it will add 50,000 square feet of gaming space and a restaurant owned by a celebrity chef in 2019. 
• The new amenity construction is scheduled to begin in November.
• The proposed improvements, estimated to cost $85 million, follow the casino‘s $7 million high-stakes bingo hall opening in July and the casino-owning tribe’s February announcement that Great Wolf Resorts will develop an indoor water park adjacent to Foxwoods.

Connecticut’s Foxwood Resort Bares $85 Million Improvement Plan 

Since February, when Foxwoods celebrated its 30th anniversary, the casino has presented monthly projects of differing scopes. According to a press release, the new gaming space will be located in the casino’s Grand Pequot area, in the Grand Ballroom. However, neither the number of slot machines nor the variety of table games will be specified in the statement.

According to Foxwoods’ most recent quarterly report for the period ending June 30, the casino operated approximately 300,000 square feet of gaming space containing approximately 3,000 slot machines and 250 table games. The expansion would increase the gaming area to a total of 50,000 square feet.

The identity of the “iconic celebrity chef” whose restaurant will occupy 13,000 square feet of the new space will be revealed later this year. The upcoming amenity has been described as a “luxurious, high-limit slot area;” a 40-seat bar with over 35 slot machines; and a 15-seat bar.

More Construction Improvements will be Held Next Year 

This year, Foxwoods also announced plans to open the sushi restaurant Sushi by Bou, a redesigned version of its Golden Dragon restaurant, and the burger chain Wahlburgers. In addition, the VIP Canopy Players’ Lounge and CardVault, a sports memorabilia store, has opened.

DraftKings Sportsbook at Foxwoods opened in November 2021 and occupies over 12,000 square feet across two floors.

Guyot stated last week that an announcement regarding the proposed Great Wolf Lodge at Mashantucket indoor water park resort will be made in the fall. 

The $300 million project, which will include 550 hotel rooms, will be constructed on Foxwoods Boulevard between the Rainmaker entrance to Foxwoods and the Pequot Outpost gas station/convenience store.
