Nebraska Introduces a Program for Self-Exclusion

Participants in the commission’s program will be able to voluntarily opt out of all forms of legal gaming in the Cornhusker State. In addition, the portal will give players additional tools and materials to assist them in managing their gaming behavior. 

Those who choose to remove themselves from gambling have the option of doing so for one year, multiple years, or for life. Excluded individuals will be denied access to state casinos, preventing them from engaging in irresponsible spending.

The new proposal is consistent with the state of Nebraska’s desire to pave the way for safer gaming in the state. 

Last week, the first permanent casino in the Cornhusker State officially opened. It is located at the Thoroughbred racetrack at Lincoln Race Course and features 400 slots. 

The self-exclusion program attempts to safeguard those who wish to abstain from gambling at any cost, mirroring the safe practices of other jurisdictions.

Tom Sage, the executive director of the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission, discussed the new self-exclusion program. He remarked that he has participated in self-exclusion programs in the past and is pleased to see one being implemented in Nebraska.

Sciandra remarked that the new program will assist many individuals in establishing order in their life and resisting the temptation of gambling. 

Even if some may find ways to circumvent the self-exclusion scheme, it is preferable to have safeguards that prevent the majority of high-risk gamblers from having full access to games of chance.
