Positive Immediately Following Reelection

Senator Addabbo was just reelected, and he reaffirmed his support for bringing online casinos and poker to New York in less than a day.

He has been a longtime proponent of expanding New York’s gambling scene, and in a recent interview with NY Sports Day, he expressed his desire to bring the topic of legalizing online gambling and poker in New York in 2023 to the attention of legislators.

Addabbo is well-known for his criticism of New York’s absence of licensed internet casinos and poker. He believes that legalizing it would actually make New York gamblers safer.

If the gambling scene in New York is extended, the state will have additional choices for assisting gamblers who suffer from compulsive gambling or are somehow harmed by it.

He claims that New Yorkers already gamble illegally or in other states. This not only results in less choices for the state to assist them if necessary, but also in lost tax income and money leaving the state.

According to Senator Addabbo, it’s a win-win situation for all parties concerned, and his most recent interview with NY Sports Day emphasized this.

On April 9, 2022, the New York State Budget for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2022-23 was passed. If his measures make it into the next presidential budget proposal, Addabbo’s intentions may bear fruit as early as January. Therefore, if that attempt fails, his next opportunity to try again would be in April, a few months later.

His Gambling Advocacy Is Very Ancient

Senator Addabbo’s support for New York’s gambling sector has been outspoken and unwavering for years. Since at least the last few years, he has been a proponent of poker in New York, even sponsoring legislation that defines poker as an interactive game of skill, as opposed to a game of chance.

The latter classification would define it as an activity governed by gaming regulations, which is where proposals typically stall.

Addabbo’s support for mobile wagering in New York has been frequently demonstrated. Since the introduction of sports betting in New York, he has maintained a consistent stance.

In February of this year, he tried again to pass a law that would allow online gambling in New York, and his efforts have always seemed on the verge of success. Senator Addabbo’s support is not, however, a product of his own initiative; rather, he continues a long-standing practice that dates back to his father, Congressman Joseph P. Addabbo, Sr.

His goal is to lower the state’s exorbitantly high tax rate of 51% on sportsbooks and attract more businesses. Obviously, he also intends to introduce internet gambling and poker in New York.

However, he has also emphasized the significance of legalization itself, as this is the only way for New Yorkers to sustainably benefit from the sector.
