Commercial Casinos In New York Still Closed While Tribal Properties Thrive sherlock 9. July 2020 | UPDATED ON: 9. July 2020 Post Views: 191 New York state was one of the worst-hit from the coronavirus pandemic. The state’s hospitality and gaming field may have to go through another period of uncertainty. Vernon Downs Casino Hotel and Tioga Downs Casino Resort recently announced that they may have to do shut down again. Both properties have already stopped accepting bookings. What led to the decision? The announcement comes after Governor Andrew Cuomo talked about casino locations. According to him, gaming properties will have to wait a little longer before they allow in-person gaming. Cuomo didn’t specify a date for the reopening of these properties. However, it is clear now that most casino hotspots will remain deserted for longer. However, even as commercial casinos remain closed tribal casinos have already started their operations. After four months of lockdown, these casinos have already started welcoming their first guests. Native American casinos complied with the state’s orders when it came to the coronavirus shutdown, even though it wasn’t compulsory. However, since they are working with independent compacts, tribal casinos are free to open their properties to the guests. What about commercial casinos? As commercial casinos are guided and regulated by the state, they will have to wait for long before they start operations. The casinos were originally set to start their operations during phase 4 of the reopening plan. Both Vernon Downs and Tioga Downs had the June 26 reopening date in sight. Tioga Downs said that it is closing down again but it would continue hosting guests on the patio. Casino activities will remain suspended. The Oneida Indian Nation will be implementing some additional safety measures as more people start visiting its three tribal casino locations. Management has planned to prohibit smoking indoors. It is also making face masks compulsory for the patrons at all times. The screening will also be compulsory upon entering the property. The Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, Point Place Casino in Bridgeport, and Yellow Brick Road Casino Chittenango are now eyeing July 10 for implementing these new measures.
