MGC Continues to Receive Poker-Related Inquiries

Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield hosted a total of 95 poker tables before the worldwide epidemic. These tables were available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Following the implementation of several COVID-related limitations, the two establishments temporarily ceased serving poker. 

Encore reintroduced poker as part of its offerings in January of this year, while MGM did it in October of last year. In light of the restricted number of poker tables, a recent report says that the state’s regulatory body may attempt to raise this number.

Earlier this week, members of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) met with officials of the three casinos. The regulator may be considering alternatives to boost the number of poker tables accessible at the three gaming establishments in the state, according to a story by The Sun. Cathy Judd-Stein, chairwoman of the MGC, said that the Commission continues to get requests from citizens wondering when poker expansion would occur.

Scaling up the number of Poker Tables

Brad Hill, commissioner of the MGC, said that the statewide quantity of tables is alarming. Since the activity has begun, just 29 poker tables are now accessible. MGM Springfield has fourteen poker tables, while Encore Boston Harbor has fifteen. Brad Hill, a member of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, said that the number of these tables “looks really minimal.” Moreover, he emphasized that the MGC is attempting to give licensees in the state a clear message that it intends to expand the number of poker tables. 

According to the website for Encore Boston Harbor, the poker room is open Monday through Thursday. The operating hours for the fifteen tables are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. In contrast, MGM Springfield provides poker everyday from 10 a.m. until 3 a.m. In light of this, Hill noted that working hours and days may be expanded in the near future.
