November Sports Betting Handle Soars

The total amount wagered in November across all retail and mobile betting venues came to a staggering $93,090,530. This marked the third month in a row in which there was an increase in the betting handle, considering that a month earlier, in October, it stopped at $91.3 million.

Furthermore, the $93.1 million betting handle that was recorded in November was the second-highest result for 2022, with the $99.5 million combined betting handle that was reported in January 2022 being the best result overall for the year.

During the month of November, the betting handle increased when compared to the previous month, while gross gaming revenue (GGR) fell. The gross revenue for the month of October 2022 was $9.1 million, which was the highest result seen since the beginning of the year. 

However, after only one month, in the month of November, the GGR dropped to a total of $4,963,600. This outcome was close to the GGR reports of $4.5 million and $4.2 million that were made in July and August 2022, respectively, but it was also lower than the GGR report made in September of $7.4 million.

As a result of the decline in GGR, the state earned a lower total amount of tax income. The general government revenue (GGR) of $9.1 million that was recorded in October resulted in proceeds of $4.5 million for New Hampshire. 

However, the state’s revenue share dropped to $2.2 million in November, which was lower than in October and September, but higher than the figure from August. The state’s share of the revenue had been higher in August.

The number of wagers placed via mobile devices is growing

The New Hampshire Lottery provided a breakdown that indicated that the betting handle from mobile sports betting increased in November, reaching $69.1 million. 

This represents a slight increase when compared to the $68.2 million total that was achieved in October.

The gross gaming revenue (GGR) generated by mobile betting in November was $5.4 million and was unable to beat the GGR that was recorded in October. 

The state’s share, calculated based on the GGR that was reported in November, was $2.4 million. While this figure is lower than the results from October and September, it is an improvement over the numbers calculated in August and July.

The Wagering Industry Increase Compared to Previous Month 

On the other side, retail sports betting generated a handle of betting of $24 million for the month of November. This resulted in an increase as compared to the previous month, yet the GGR generated by the activity rose to a negative amount of $422,119. 

Despite this, the total amount wagered on retail sports betting has been steadily increasing, and the result for the month of November recorded the highest figure for 2022.

New Hampshire, which is located in the Northeastern United States and has borders with Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont, is the only state in the US that now allows betting on sports. 

While other states, such as Massachusetts and Maine, have legalized the activity, they have not yet launched their regulated sports betting markets. Vermont, on the other hand, has not even legalized sports betting yet.
